We were racing up there one night Gary in the car
they were mixing limited with late models we were running the 311 inch motor turning about 8900 rpm running good Gary went off down in the corner # 3 car caught fire (flash fire) I figured it blowed. he takes off walking back to the pits .. gets there and hands me a bolt he found on the track, when the car gets there on the wecker we look it over to access the damage to the engine, mmmmm it looks OK we see what started the fire .... a bolt holding the bowl to the carb came out.. THE BOLT I was holding in my hand. the bolt went back in the carb, Gary back in the car, the car back on the track, and I think a 8 th or 9th place finish (oh what a night) amazing but true.. when it was all over Gary laughing says how about checking those bolts every week. I agreed. |
