Local Race Chat closed in 2016 and this site is an archive restoration. No advertising is being sold and no enquiries are being taken. This page records how advertising worked on the original site, because it was a real part of how the board ran and it is referenced in the site rules.
How it worked
Advertising on Local Race Chat was sold directly by the site, not through an ad network. Sponsors bought either a banner spot or a monthly advertising fee, and that purchase was what made posting promotional material acceptable. Everyone else was barred from it.
The site rules put it plainly, as rule two of the five headed Most Important to Remember:
Please note that we do not allow advertising, on this board without being a paying advertiser holding a Banner spot or paying A monthly advertising fee.(No Self Promotion Allowed) THIS INCLUDES SIGNATURES AND AVATARS If a flood of advertisement occurs, the advertiser and the posts will be deleted from this Message Board.
A separate section of the rules repeated the point and set the penalty: unless prior authorization is given, advertising is prohibited on the forums, and membership would be revoked at the first offence.
Who advertised
The banners were regional. They came from the businesses that a Carolinas short track racer actually dealt with: track operators promoting a feature night, chassis and parts suppliers, tyre dealers, engine shops and local trade. Two of them are recorded in the name of the fantasy league itself, which ran as the Auto Rehab and RJ Tire NASCAR Fantasy League.
The archive holds thirty three URLs under the site’s banners directory. The site’s own 2016 banner has been recovered. The sponsor banners have not been restored here, because they are third party advertising art belonging to those businesses and several of them are for offers that expired more than a decade ago.
What survives
Site banner
The 2016 Local Race Chat banner, 728 by 90, recovered from the archive and the only banner reproduced on this site.
Sponsor art
Thirty three URLs recorded under /banners/. The images are not restored.
Rates
No rate card, contract or price list appears in any capture. Nothing is known about what a banner cost.
Ad server
The site ran ad serving paths under /ads/, /phpads/ and /openx/. These were machinery, not pages, and are not restored.
Premium membership
The signature rules distinguish between all members and premium members, with picture signatures limited to the latter. That is the only surviving evidence that a paid membership tier existed. No pricing, no benefits list and no signup page for it survives in any capture, so nothing further is claimed about it here.
